Intelex's Input AI

EHS leaders know AI can improve safety performance. Many are already experimenting with it.

In our recent survey of 864 EHS professionals, 1 in 3 reported using AI across multiple areas of their programs. But the difficulty connecting AI tools with existing processes and systems is the number one barrier preventing teams from using AI more.

In this post, you’ll learn how we’re thinking about AI, where we’re investing next, and how we’re incorporating it into Intelex’s EHS management software to improve outcomes for EHS teams.

Intelex’s AI strategy

Many vendors in the EHS space now promote “powered by AI” features, but these capabilities are often broad, generic, and fail to deliver measurable improvements in safety or operational performance.

At Intelex, we’re taking a different path.

We began investing in EHS-focused AI in 2019, and many members of our product and AI teams come from EHS roles.

That background gives us a deep understanding of the profession’s challenges and the potential of AI and machine learning to strengthen safety outcomes and improve performance.

Our AI team, led by PhD and AI patent-holder Mahdi Ramezani, is focused on three key areas where artificial intelligence can make a big difference:

  1. Automating time-consuming data entry so every report includes actionable detail.
  1. Pulling together information from multiple systems to give leaders the full picture instantly.
  1. Surfacing patterns and predictive signals at a speed and scale no human team can match.

Intelex’s AI principles

We believe AI elevates human judgment and understanding, helping EHS professionals accomplish more, faster. To guide that mission we follow these core principles:

  • Human-centric: AI strengthens the expertise and decision-making of EHS professionals.
  • Privacy first: Customer data is protected with rigorous controls and safeguards.
  • Impact driven: Our goal is prevention — reducing incidents, protecting workers, and improving environmental and quality outcomes.

Five-step development process for AI

To deliver AI responsibly and effectively, our team uses a five-step development process:

Problem understandingConfirm the problem and determine whether AI is the right fit.
AI labTest and evaluate models using representative customer data.
Proof of valueValidate accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and business impact with multiple customers.
AI factoryBuild and deploy the feature within Intelex infrastructure.
Rollout and adoptionMake the capability available to customers and support usage.

Simply put, we’re not wrapping a generic language model around our software. We’re building specialized AI models for EHS, including language, vision, and predictive tools.

Solving two core EHS challenges with AI

We focused on leveraging AI to solve two fundamental problems.

Problem 1: Data capture is often slow and inconsistent.

Frontline reports often miss important context, making it hard to understand what actually happened.

Workers are too busy to fill out long forms, so reports end up incomplete, missing key details, or containing personal information by mistake. If the information is weak, the solutions that follow may not work well.

Problem 2: Valuable insights often stay hidden and unused.

Even when there is plenty of data, the most important patterns stay buried.

Critical trends are hard to spot, follow-up actions are difficult to prioritize, and the window for prevention closes fast. Humans can’t process complex datasets quickly enough to expose the signals that drive better decisions.

These gaps make it harder for organizations to respond confidently and stop problems from happening again using Input AI and Insight AI.

Input AI: Faster, better data collection

Intelex's Input AI

The current situation: Frontline workers spend too much time completing complex forms, often on mobile devices. Reports get delayed. Details go missing. Compliance risk increases.

Our approach: Input AI makes reporting easier, smarter, and more accurate without adding more steps.

How it works:

  • AI-enhanced descriptions for incidents, audits, tasks/actions, and observations with instant feedback and recommendations.
  • Automatic field population from text, audio, or image.
  • Photo-to-observation generation with descriptions and field predictions.
  • Extraction of key information from documents.

The results:

  • Faster reporting: Incident and observation entry takes minutes, not hours.
  • Higher data quality: More complete information and consistent categorization.
  • Stronger adoption: Workers actually want to use the tool.
  • Reduced compliance gaps: Fewer late or incomplete reports.

Insight AI: Intelligence from your data

The current situation: EHS teams collect large amounts of data but struggle to identify patterns early enough to prevent incidents. Manual analysis slows decision-making and limits impact.

Our approach: Insight AI transforms historical and real-time data into guidance you can act on.

How it works:

  • Pattern detection in open-text descriptions.
  • Automated summaries and analytics.
  • Predictive analytics based on leading indicators and historical events.

The results:

  • Faster insights: Analysis happens continuously, not quarterly or annually.
  • Earlier risk detection: Risks surface before incidents happen.
  • Better resource allocation: Focus prevention efforts where they matter most.
  • Stronger leadership alignment: Clear, data-backed recommendations.

Making an informed AI decision

The EHS software market has reached an inflection point.

AI is becoming central to modern safety and environmental performance. Yet solutions vary widely.

Some vendors offer limited capabilities, unclear data protections, or generic tools that don’t translate into EHS impact.

Our approach is different: built by EHS experts, grounded in proven AI methods, and focused on outcomes that protect people, operations, and the environment.
