As the threat of climate change becomes a reality, the world will become a more dangerous place. To meet this challenge, the U.S. Army has released its first climate change strategy.

One doesn’t usually think of the military as being concerned primarily with sustainability. However, the U.S. Army is proving that climate change preparation is necessary for every organization by releasing its first ever Climate Strategy. The strategy emphasizes making the Army more adaptive and resilient to a changing world while decarbonizing its operations in line with the government’s overall approach to meeting climate reduction targets.

This approach will be an important component of a strategy designed to increase the Army’s self-sufficiency and maintain its operational superiority in the face of climate-related disruption. The U.S. Army generates more pollution than 140 of the countries in the world, which means its sustainability efforts will make a significant contribution to international … Read more...

Proposed Climate-Related Rules from the SEC: What Do They Mean For You?

The SEC’s proposed rules on climate-related disclosures are an important step in the fight against climate change. They also promise big obligations for your business. Are you ready?

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has released its proposed rule changes for climate-related disclosures. These proposals represent a strong commitment to the principles of ESG on the part of the government and the business community. If enacted, they also promise more rigorous environmental reporting obligations for many organizations.

The required information about climate-related risks would also include disclosure of a registrant’s greenhouse gas emissions, which have become a commonly used metric to assess a registrant’s exposure to such risks. From April 20-22, join the world’s leaders in celebrating Earth Day 2021. By working together, we can prevent the coming disasters of climate change and environmental destruction. The theme of Earth Day 2021 is Restore Our Earth.

“At the heart of Earth Day’s 2021 theme, Restore Our Earth, is optimism, a critically needed sentiment in a world ravaged by both climate change and the pandemic,” said Kathleen Rogers, EARTHDAY.ORG president. “Restoring Our Earth is about solving climate change through the world’s natural systems, such as regenerative agriculture practices and reforestation, as well as through existing and safe technologies. Restoring our planet will also require the commitment of our world’s leaders to support climate literacy and civic skill building so that we can create a global engaged and active citizenry, a green consumer movement and an economy … Read more...

5 Questions to Ask About EPA’s Forthcoming Clean Power Plan

This article was co-authored by Kristin Meek and was republished with permission from the World Resources Institute, a global research organization which seeks to create equity and prosperity through sustainable natural resource management.

Last June, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed the first-ever standards to limit carbon dioxide (CO2) pollution from existing power plants, known as the Clean Power Plan. After an extended comment period during which the agency received more than 4 million comments, EPA is expected to finalize the plan this summer.
