Streamlining Compliance: Using AI to Solve Pain Points in Your Regulatory Compliance Efforts

Artificial Intelligence doesn’t have to be scary or confusing. Find out how AI works behind the scenes to help update your database of regulations and permits in this webinar from Intelex Technologies and EHS Today.

Ever wonder why, if you click on an online ad, you suddenly start seeing ads for similar products? Or why, if you join a Facebook group, you suddenly start receiving suggestions of other groups you might want to join? The answer is artificial intelligence. It tracks our browsing habits – that’s what those “cookies” are for – and fuels the suggestions search engines and powerful online entities like Facebook and Amazon make for us.

Compliance at the Speed of Risk

I recently read that risk management begins and ends with decision making. Perhaps this is right, but I believe not in the sense that this statement was originally made. Risk management is more than just identifying the value at risk and deciding which is the best option. While this is important it is only half of the story.

Every plan, every project, every business endeavor operates in the presence of uncertainty and this uncertainty creates the opportunity for risk. This affects decision making, of course, but also affects how a company is organized, structured, the systems and processes that are put in place, and the culture it needs to contend with uncertainty as they make progress towards their goals and mission success.

Unfortunately, up until now, many companies build their defenses around disparate management systems implemented across functional silos and reinforced by reactive behaviors. This creates the possibility for risk … Read more...

Meet an Intelex Client: Blair Howell, Subaru

Blair is the Environmental, Health and Safety Assistant Manager for Subaru Canada. A well-known name in the automotive industry, Subaru first began using Intelex at their manufacturing facility in the United States. At the time, Subaru was working towards ISO 14001 certification and they needed a system that would help them achieve their environmental goals. According to Blair, “Intelex was by far the best application and system out there.”

Working out of Mississauga, Ontario, Blair has found that for him the most beneficial tool has been the training application. Previously, Subaru experienced difficulty tracking training and both management and employees had a hard time understanding training requirements and schedules.

“Before we were in a folder system,” Blair says. “Employees had a really difficult time identifying where all this information was located.” By centralizing their data, Intelex … Read more...

Intelex discusses Oil and Gas safety management in ISHN

As in other high-risk sectors, workplace safety is of utmost importance in the Oil and Gas industry, where the smallest of near-misses and at-risk behaviours can result in devastating consequences for frontline workers, not to mention catastrophic environmental impacts. In light of this, it’s hard to believe some oil and gas companies still rely on archaic, paper-based systems for EHS management. Yet in spite of the adoption of state-of-the-art EHS management systems by some industry leaders, paper- and spreadsheet-based systems are still in widespread use.

That said, the trend is changing and businesses are increasingly beginning to see how streamlined EHS management systems are ultimately investments with great returns that help companies navigate increasingly complex regulatory waters. Learn more about this dynamic by checking out my article “Goodbye to paper and spreadsheets” in the most recent issue of ISHN (Industrial Safety and Hygiene News). You’ll have to register … Read more...

Intelex contributes to Oil and Gas Product News

Check out the recent Intelex article, When Paper Kills: The Perils of Reactive Management, in the latest issue of Oil and Gas Product News. Sure, the title sounds a bit dramatic, but when it comes to occupational health and safety, you can’t be too serious.

The story hones in on the sometimes archaic paper and spreadsheet-based systems that some Oil and Gas companies (not to mention businesses across all sectors) use to manage environmental, health and saefty (EHS) management data, particularly on oil rigs, drills, platforms and other worksites.

The article, through a couple of hypothetical case studies, explores the difference between reactive, paper-based EHS management systems and the proactive, streamlined alternative, and discuss how the impacts on workplace health and safety, environmental impacts, time and eficiency, and bottom line/ROI significantly vary between the two systems.

So take a look, and let us or Oil and Gas Product News know … Read more...
