Over 40 Intelexians vie for top spot in 2nd annual Intelex Spring Classic

After a beautiful day at Deer Creek Golf and Country Club, the Second Annual Intelex Spring Classic is in the books. This year more than 40 golfers entered the tournament vying for the top spot. Top honours go to the Team of Frank Friesen, Melanie Cook, Kellie Hart and Steve Buffett who came first with a score of 70.

The 5,759-yard, par-70 track was made up of Deer Creek’s Ruby Course and Diamond course. This obviously did not pose a threat to the Intelex golfers as there was a second team that went low with a score of 70 but because of a tie-breaker they came in second. This team was Greg Bilous, Bryan Humphries, Matt Turczyn and Mitch Doyle, and they now have the experience to lead their team to victory next year.

The day was not all about going low but also about some individual achievement. Kristy Sadler … Read more...

Beyond orientation: the essential advantages of onboarding

If you are an Intelexian, you can’t go far without seeing onboarding at work! And if you’re not an Intelexian, here is our insider perspective:

What is Onboarding?

Onboarding is an opportunity to get all new Intelexians set up for success in their new company and their new role. Onboarding is more than orientation. Orientation is meant to familiarize new Intelexians with the organizational structure and important policies; it takes only half a day here at Intelex. For us in the Professional Development Office (responsible for onboarding), onboarding is the first chance to reveal the Intelex Platform and Products as well as (equally important) expose new employees to the culture and vision Intelex aspires to achieve.

Why do we Onboard?

Most new employees will decide on staying with a company within the first 45 days of employment. This reflects the importance of a planned onboarding program that helps employees through … Read more...

Q&A: What an Intelex internship looks like

Recently, up-and-coming developer David Jun Cai wrapped up his three-month internship as a developer in Intelex’s Online Communities department. As a 19-year-old University of Waterloo Computer Engineering student, David got first-hand, front-line experience helping Intelex work on new and innovative projects, including Intelex’s amazing internal digital newsletter, IntelexPress.

I sat down with David before he left to discuss his time here, what he learned, and what he found unique about the Intelex experience.

Hi, David. So, what were you doing before coming to Intelex?

I was learning Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo.

How did you find out about this Internship?

The Top 5 tips for nailing the all-important phone interview

Intelex’s Professional Development Office (PDO) is excited to kick off a series of blogs every other Wednesday that highlight the Intelex hiring and onboarding processes, as well as trends in recruiting and learning and development.

Intelex has received a lot of attention recently. After being selected as a Greater Toronto Top Employer, a Great Place to Work (fifth in Canada), and a three-time recipient of the Deloitte Fast 500 Tech Companies honour, among all the other awards that have come our way in the last 12 months. We think it is important to help individuals who are very interested in the company, through the Intelex recruiting process, and that’s why we’ve launched this series of blog posts.

For this entry I would like to discuss The Phone Interview. Most candidates will be interviewed on the phone prior to being brought in for an in-person interview. The process is generally fairly … Read more...

Thanks for making Intelex such a great place to work

Hello Everyone!

In case you haven’t heard yet, Intelex was selected as the fifth “Best Place to Work” in Canada last night by the “Great Place to Work Institute.” Check them out here.

This is yet another great award for Intelex and totally a result of our exceptional culture and the great people we have here. We placed 5th out of 50 medium companies that were ranked, and many hundreds more that applied.

We also were one of six companies in 100 that won a special “Camaraderie” award!

I want everyone in the organization to feel free to be very proud of this achievement. I can’t stress enough that it is all about our Intelexians and how each one works with their colleagues, shares ideas, creates an open and trusting environment, and cultivates a workplace that is a pleasure to come to everyday.

The award is printed today in … Read more...

Intelex named Canada’s 5th best place to work!

Wow! We’re kinda pumped. For starters, it’s been an amazing year for Intelex, award-wise. From being named one of Canada’s 50 Best companies, to being singled out as one of the best GTA employers on two exclusive lists in the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star, the accolades have just kept coming, and last night was no different.

The Great Place to Work Institute held its major 2012 Best Workplaces in Canada gala, and presented the 100 best organizations to work for in Canada, singling out 50 medium and 50 enterprise organizations. As announcers came around to counting down Canada’s top 10 organizations, we were on the edge of our seats! Then came the big moment as we were named Canada’s fifth best place to work!

On top of that, Intelex was handed an exclusive award for camaraderie, which only five other companies of the 100 winners … Read more...

Intelex emblazons walls with corporate values

Here at Intelex we like to have fun, but we’re also pretty serious about our role in the world, how we treat our employees, and answering the question ‘why we do what we do’.

That’s why we established a series of corporate values that are core to our entire operation. Now, often companies state their corporate values, and they are written in a document that winds up collecting dust in some dark filing cabinet. We wanted to do things a little differently. We wanted to ensure we lived up to our stated values, and that we’re constantly reminded of what those values are.

So we decided to emblazon our office walls with all the values that drive our business. Every day, as employees walk the halls of our headquarters, they are reminded of the meaning behind the work they do and how our company impacts the world in positive ways.

That good ol’ Deerhurst hockey game

In the beautiful north of Toronto, the stars glitter high in the night sky. But last weekend at Intelex’s Annual Winter Retreat at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, the stars were on ice!

That’s right!  More than 20 different Intelexians ranging from technical support to sales laced up their skates in front of their partners and peers to be a part of the first Annual Intelex Winter X Cup!

It was a beautiful day for a real outdoor experience including an Opening Ceremonies, the National Anthem, the official drop of the puck, and even player and fan interviews!

The game made for an amazing activity in which more than 100 Intelexians (Fans & Players) kicked off the Intelex Holiday Weekend.

The spirit was alive, off and on the ice. At the end of the event the cup was awarded to the winners, Team Jaine, but was shared by all Intelexians throughout the weekend.… Read more...

Intelex named one of Toronto’s top employers…again!

The accolades just keep piling on. Only a week after being singled-out as one of Toronto’s top employers in the Globe and Mail, Intelex was ranked 15th out of 35 of the Greater Toronto Area’s best employers in yet another employment award competition, the results of which were published in the Toronto Star last week.

Organized by Queen’s School of Business and Aon Hewitt, the Best Employers in the GTA competition evaluated workplace culture, benefits, retention, and most importantly, employee engagement. According to contest coordinators, the results of this study were influenced heavily by a survey conducted to determine how employees actually feel about their employer.

“The real litmus test of whether or not an organization is a Best Employer lies with the employees themselves,” explained Neil Crawford, Aon Hewitt’s study leader. “This study goes beyond satisfaction (how much I like things here) and commitment (how much I want to be here) to measure … Read more...
