Earth Day 2021: Restore Our Earth

As the world returns to normal, EarthDay.org warns, “We can’t go back to business-as-usual.”

From April 20-22, join the world’s leaders in celebrating Earth Day 2021. By working together, we can prevent the coming disasters of climate change and environmental destruction. The theme of Earth Day 2021 is Restore Our Earth.

“At the heart of Earth Day’s 2021 theme, Restore Our Earth, is optimism, a critically needed sentiment in a world ravaged by both climate change and the pandemic,” said Kathleen Rogers, EARTHDAY.ORG president. “Restoring Our Earth is about solving climate change through the world’s natural systems, such as regenerative agriculture practices and reforestation, as well as through existing and safe technologies. Restoring our planet will also require the commitment of our world’s leaders to support climate literacy and civic skill building so that we can create a global engaged and active citizenry, a green consumer movement and an economy … Read more...

What Factors Are Accelerating the Rise of the Sustainable Business?

The business world is always changing, and the most successful companies are those that foresee, understand and get out ahead of these changes to retain or expand their competitive edge.

The decade ahead could see a reprise of last century’s “Roaring 20s,” with all its rapid economic growth, inflation and employment gains as the world climbs out from the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the economy heats up, businesses will be looking for ways to take advantage of the growth while mitigating risk and downside. One promising approach is to increase efforts around environment, social and governance (ESG) strategies. Refocusing will help them deal with the trends that are changing global markets.

Government Regulations and Policies

Governments’ environmental policy varies from country to country. This is due in part to the varied priorities and strategies for addressing climate change, varied stages of economic development and even administration changes … Read more...

How Is Renewable Energy Accelerating the Rise of Sustainable Business?

Companies that invest in renewable energy save money, delight their customers, and please investors while avoiding fines and/or carbon taxes. Renewable energy helps build a sustainable business, which in turn helps your company reach its ESG goals.

Renewable energy is flourishing around the world. Countries and businesses are aggressively expanding wind, solar, and hydroelectric generation capacity to reduce carbon output, please customers, and lower costs.

Many businesses around the globe are working to become “greener” as part of their focus on Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies. They are driven by the threat of global climate change, changing customer preferences, and the goal of improving their triple bottom line (profits, people, and planet).

There is a lot more to creating a sustainable business than reducing your organization’s energy consumption and carbon footprint, but it’s a great place to start. Unfortunately, depending on where your business operates, decarbonizing your energy consumption … Read more...

How AI is Helping Organizations Meet ESG Expectations

Using AI, subject matter experts who need to understand ESG requirements can synthesize vast quantities of data that would take weeks or even months for human readers to wade through.

Today’s organizations are part of a dynamic marketplace undergoing seemingly constant disruption. While some of these disruptions, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, will produce times of crises, others will be the catalyst to monumental positive change.

Over the last few years, organizations have started to look beyond profit as the primary motivation for doing business to the possibility of having a positive impact on society and the environment. To this end, ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) has become the foundation upon which many organizations and their customers see strategic decisions regarding investment and innovation being made.

However, ESG comes with a number of complex obstacles for implementation. This is where ehsAI’s artificial intelligence and deep learning solutions can make … Read more...

Towards a Greener Future: How Denmark’s Energy Island Project Leads the Way for Organizations to Develop Sound Sustainable Practices

Denmark's Energy Island

Denmark’s “energy island” will mark the first of its kind. Funded by both the government as well as the private sector, this project is designed to supply electricity for three million households in Denmark and may also extend its reach to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany. There are even plans to use green hydrogen for shipping and transportation.

The island will be located 50 miles off the eastern coast, its total size will be anywhere from 120,000 to 360,000 square meters and it will house 200 offshore wind turbines. From a cost perspective, it will be the largest construction project the country has undertaken, with an estimated total cost of $34 billion (€28 billion).

Under Denmark’s Climate Act, the country has committed to an ambitious 70% reduction in 1990 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and to becoming CO2 neutral by 2050. On top of that, leaders recently … Read more...

ESGs, Sustainable Development and What the Pandemic of 2020 Revealed

ESGs and Sustainable Development

Covid 19 and its global impact has focused attention both on the strains imposed on our health systems and the ability of those systems to respond to the challenges presented by the virus and the interconnecting of people and travel that have acted as vectors in the spread of the disease. The pandemic also served to emphasise the vulnerability of people and societies, and to shed light on the relationship between people and the planet.

Our world, and the diversity of ecosystems it supports, is threatened by deforestation, pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, draining of wetlands, climate change, globalization and other factors of modern life. As noted by World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in an address to the 73rd World Health Assembly on May 18, 2020: “The pandemic is a reminder of the intimate and delicate relationship between people and planet. Any efforts to make our world safer … Read more...

How Digital Transformation Is Propelling Operational Excellence in Oil and Gas

Digital Transformation Oil and Gas

Digital transformation plays an impactful role in shaping practices and processes in most industries, including oil and gas. From accurately forecasting the number of incidents to automating administrative tasks related to those incidents and process hazard analyses, the digitization of the oil and gas industry has contributed to worker safety, streamlined EHSQ and compliance processes and nurtured improved safety cultures.

While the oil and gas industry has not been at the forefront of innovation historically, it has, however, retained its position as a leading player in the economy as it continues to be the largest source of energy (in the U.S., it is the #1 source). As the source material for gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, it is also used to make products including propane, asphalt and petro-chemical feedstocks as well as heavy and light fuel oil. On top of that, it is also used in producing many consumer products … Read more...

Managing environmental impacts can be challenging for EHSQ professionals.

Only then will you have transparency into your company’s environmental and sustainability performance.

In this webinar, speakers Rob Polito and Jason Beebe will walk you through what you could get out of an environmental management information system (EMIS). They will explain why planning for the future is paramount to ensuring your success.

Sustainability, Transparency and Operational Excellence – 360 Degree View of Your EHSQ Performance provides a deep dive into the tools available to help you achieve the following:
