#IWD2022: Championing Climate Action, by Women and Girls, Is Key To Saving Our Planet

Every year, Intelex celebrates International Women’s Day. The theme for International Women’s Day 2022 (March 8, 2022) is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” It recognizes the contribution of women and girls around the world who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation and response in an effort to build a more sustainable future for all.

According to the organizers of IWD, advancing gender equality in the context of the climate crisis and disaster risk reduction “is one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century.” The issues of climate change and sustainability have had and will continue to have severe and lasting impacts on our environment and on economic and social development.

Those who are among the most vulnerable and marginalized experience the deepest impacts. Women increasingly are being recognized as more vulnerable to climate change impacts than men, as they constitute the majority of the world’s poor and are more dependent on the natural resources that are threatened the most by climate change.

At the same time, women and girls are effective and powerful leaders and change-makers for climate adaptation and mitigation. They are involved in sustainability initiatives around the world, and their participation and leadership results in more effective climate action.

Continuing to examine the opportunities, as well as the constraints, to empower women and girls to have a voice and be equal players in decision-making related to climate change and sustainability is essential for sustainable development and greater gender equality. Without gender equality today, a sustainable future – and an equal future – remains beyond our reach.

Intelex, with our focus on sustainability and ESG (which includes some of the wider social justice issues addressed as part of this year’s International Women’s Day theme) is helping our customers build and protect a sustainable future for all of us. We take climate change and creating a sustainable future personally, as you can see from what some of us had to say about it.

At Intelex, our vision is to end workplace death by 2050. To realize this vision, we are on a mission to enable our customers to deliver cleaner, safer and more efficient operations. People and their environments are inextricably linked; protecting and valuing both is essential to a sustainable future.

Sustainability is core to who we are at Intelex. We live sustainability through our daily decisions, from creating a workplace that brings out the best in each of us to building ESG (environmental, social and governance) solutions for our customers. On International Women’s Day, we are reminded of how grateful we are to serve our customers and together build a sustainable future.

Sustainability is also part of my personal values. I am thankful for the many gifts I’ve received; for example, being surrounded by inspiring people and being able to work on meaningful problems. With gifts and privileges, I feel responsibility: I want the cumulation of decisions I make – both as an individual and as a part of a community – to make life better today and for future generations.

President, Intelex

Working towards a sustainable future is a continuous and global acknowledgement of what we need to reserve and preserve to ensure future generations have enough to meet their needs. Whilst working towards a sustainable future requires sound decision-making around complex socio-economic and environmental issues at a high level, individuals have personal responsibility to act sustainably and should be conscious of this.

At Intelex, we understand the relationship between organisations’ operations, social responsibility and carbon footprint is central to corporate and political decision-making, and offer applications to support ESG data collection, reporting and optimisation. As an ambassador for our planet, I am proud to work for Intelex and build my career in an organisation whose technology supports the monitoring of environmental, social and governance performance to promote positive change. I do not want to be complicit in a world that does nothing for those that will follow us.

The efforts we make towards a sustainability as humans, as part of communities or as part of the workforce have a huge impact on the future generations. The work we put in now, the things we do now will determine the conditions we provide for our future generations. While education is important, a change isn’t made until actions are taken.

Intelex recognizes that opportunity by supporting other organizations to play their part in helping sure that our current generations and the ones to come have equal opportunity and access to a more secure and sustainable future – a vision that I see myself being a part of.

At Intelex we’re working together for safer, cleaner, more efficient business. No matter who you are or where you live on the planet, your current choices and actions have huge long-term impacts on future generations.

A sustainable future is important to me not only because I will experience firsthand its effects in my lifetime if we don’t make changes, but I want my future children and grandchildren to flourish, have good quality of life and grow up in a world that they can enjoy and not have to fight for resources. We all have a moral obligation to each other and our future generations to do our best to make the world a better place and by practicing sustainability, it ensures that we make ethical choices that create a safe and livable future for everyone.

My role at Intelex involves providing solutions for customers ESG (environmental, social and governance) programs. When an organization adopts our software, they become more streamlined and more efficient. Their employees have better tools to do their work safely, and the business leaders have better data enabling them to make impactful decisions.  I feel fulfilled in my career and in daily life knowing I help provide a tool that creates a positive impact on people and places across the globe.

When we think of sustainability, or ESG, often the first thing that comes to mind is the environmental component, sometimes without an equal focus or understanding on the social and governance aspects. I am incredibly proud to work for an employer that not only offers sustainability solutions for our customers, but also prioritizes each ESG component within our own business.

As a woman in leadership, I choose to work for an organization that operates with integrity and transparency, valuing diversity and inclusion, and ensuring equal pay and advancement opportunities. Seeing so many of our current and future customers recognizing these same values and partnering with Intelex in their sustainability journey makes me believe in a brighter tomorrow.

Jaclyn Blake
Vice President, Global Business Development

The world we live in today feels as if it is at its most complicated. Over just the last two years, we have battled a global health crisis, have seen the impacts of the ever-increasing threat to our natural world and watched as innocent people are subjected to unimaginable violence.

And yet, throughout there have been glimmers of hope. Hope for a better world, one where we work as teams rather than individuals, where we make small changes to the way we live so as to safeguard the Earth for future generations, and where tiny acts of kindness give strangers the hope they need for another day. This is what a sustainable future means to me – that by doing the little things, together and with purpose – we will chip away at the big things and start to untangle ourselves from the complicated world we have created.
