Though the company has fully implemented the Intelex Quality Management System (QMS) and iForms® System, Mission Foods is always thinking of new ways to improve processes and scale up with new initiatives.
Intelex Training Specialist Purdal Mya and iForm® Expert Augustine Chan recently spent three days with Mission Foods Corporate Headquarters in Irving, Texas, to lead system training for a group of 17 Intelex users (seen in photo). The training focused on basic and advanced iForms®, as well as reporting and dashboards.
When I called Carmen Olson, Corporate TQ Manager at Mission Foods, to ask how the training went, she said, “Having Purdal lead the training along with Augustine’s expertise on building iForms was the right combination. Everyone was fully engaged in the class, lots of questions, ideas and some fun too!”
Mission Foods/GRUMA S.A. is the world's largest producer of Maseca corn flour and tortilla products, with production facilities across the Americas, the UK, Holland, Italy and Asia. Its operations and sales extend to the US, Canada, throughout Central America (through Gruma Centro America), and into England, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.

Implementation is commonly referred to as a project, one with clearly defined start and end dates. In some cases, that may be a very accurate description of the implementation process; however, when it comes to EQH&S software, it's a rather limiting description for what Intelex considers implementation.
Bevin Lyon, one of Intelex's Executive Account Managers says, "Continual improvement is something that never ends. Whether you're in the planning stages, in the middle of roll-out, or celebrating five years with Intelex, you are always implementing your system."
Your internal business processes are constantly being improved so why should your software stay the same? Enhancements or configurations to your Intelex system are a must and will contribute to more efficient and streamlined business processes.
If you're interested in hearing implementation stories and sharing best practices with Intelex users, please join us for a unique, one-day conference in Philadelphia on February 10, 2010. This conference is open to clients and future clients. Space is limited. For more information, or to reserve your spot, please contact Kristy Sadler at 416.500.6009 x260.
If you're unable to attend this conference and would like more information about future conferences, please contact us. Intelex is planning more user conferences in select cities in 2010.

Intelex’s Kulbir Bal and Meghan Mann just got back from another successful trip to Crawley, England where they spent two weeks at the Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA) training facilities. It was the fourth trip for Kulbir and Meghan, who have been working with VAA to implement the Intelex System, which includes a number of configured Intelex Modules and the unlimited iFormsÒ Builder.
Meghan, seen here with Miss Suiteness, says VAA is really fun to work with; “they have a ‘work hard, party hard’ attitude which is always a delightful combination. The project has been challenging at times, but the end product is well worth it. I anticipate the company’s future projects will be just as fun and challenging to work on.”
When asked about what makes VAA's use of the Intelex System unique, Kulbir responded: “Users can virtually enter the system and begin capturing data without any formal training at all. Now that’s an intuitive system! The reports automatically expand and show fields, which only appear as certain selections are made. For example, if a user makes a selection from the dropdown menu, three distinct fields may become available based on their selection. This creates a smart-form environment that triggers fields to appear only as required, thus increasing data integrity and usability. We introduced some new colours when painting the VAA Intelex canvas but the one that stands out from the rest is the presentation of a very simple interface that is powered by dynamic and intelligent database configurations.”
Congratulations to everyone at Virgin Atlantic and Intelex for making this project a great success on both sides!

The discourse of corporate social responsibility (CSR) has gained considerable momentum in recent years with all signs indicating that this movement will continue with even greater force throughout the remainder of 2009 and into 2010. Business leaders that have had CSR programs up and running for several years will tell you that when their programs started there was very little measuring and reporting on established objectives, but with sophisticated consumers and stakeholders demanding greater accountability gone are the days of just saying "it's working."
A general framework for CSR reporting has been established by The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a large multi-stakeholder network of thousands of experts, in dozens of countries worldwide. Intended to inform shareholders, stakeholders and the general public of all efforts to adhere to laws and ethical standards as well as any improvements to the sustainability of the company and the environment, CSR reports are a means of increasing the transparency into an organizations operations, which some say will spur other companies to further action. As the GRI's website (www.globalreporting.org) describes, "The Global Reporting Initiative's vision is that disclosure on economic, environmental, and social performance is as commonplace and comparable as financial reporting, and important to organizational success." On an organizational level CSR reports can be useful for companies to benchmark organizational performance, demonstrate organizational commitment to sustainable development and to compare organizational performance over time.
Celeste LeCompte investigates some of the ideas surrounding CSR reporting in a recent article on BusinessWeek.comentitled "How to Put Sustainability on the Books." The issue at the heart of LeCompte's piece is not so much what types of data organizations are including in their CSR reports but rather how they are collecting and then extracting this data. As DeCompte explains, "CSR data are notoriously complex. Putting together a report can mean pulling data from environmental health and safety departments, community and education programs, philanthropic giving records, supply chain partners, and operations records. Historically, companies have pulled that data into Excel spreadsheets to create new datasets for CSR reports. But as stakeholders—and shareholders—show more interest in sustainability concerns, companies are beginning to eye more sophisticated software to help them manage and report that data." Because collecting, verifying, and publishing data from multiple spreadsheets and various other sources is an obvious limitation on the accuracy and efficiency of a CSR report, a more sophisticated, web-based software solution such as what Intelex offers is something that many organizations have now implemented to streamline operations and make data reporting more accurate and manageable, a trend that will likely continue to increase as we move towards a more accountable, socially and environmentally conscious business world.
